Normally when I introduce a guest columnist, I highlight the vast experience they have in the topic at hand.

However, the credentials of today’s guest columnist are a little lacking. Nonetheless, he considers himself an excellent baker. He is skilled with the butter knife. And he has a questionable love for dipping everything in ketchup.

Yes, today we are learning cooking skills from a three-year old. My son Shiloh thought he had some wisdom to share. I hope you can follow his logic. The attention span of a toddler is very short. But his intentions are good. Enjoy:

I have a really important thing. Umm.

I made a good cake. I like to share. You want some?

Shiloh’s Chocolate Banana Brownies

½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup whole wheat flour

¼ tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder

Pinch of salt
Dash ground cinnamon

½ cup mashed bananas
1 tsp vanilla

2 Tbs hot water
½ cup sugar
1 ½ cups chocolate chips

3 Tbs butter
Heat the oven 350°F. Grease a 9x13 pan.

Mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon together. In a separate bowl mix the bananas, water, vanilla, and sugar.

Melt the chocolate chips and butter together in the microwave and stir into the wet batter.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet batter and mix well. Pour into the greased pan.

Bake the brownies for 20 minutes or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out with very few crumbs. Cool before cutting.
