It went to a fifth game in the District 3-AAA girls’ volleybball championship match between Exeter and Cumberland Valley on Nov. 3. But it was Cumberland Valley that took the fifth game and defeated the Lady Eagles 3-2 (20-25, 25-10, 23-25, 25-15, 15-12.
Sara Wesley led the way for Exeter with 14 kils, Gabbie Stick and Elizabeth Schutlz had 10 kills apiece while Shannon Restrepo added 37 assists.
On Nov. 1, Exeter took on Central York in the district semifinals. It didn’t look good for the locals as Central York won the first two games of the best-of-five match, 25-20 and 26-24. But the Lady Eagles never gave up and pulled off an impressive comeback by winning the next three games, 25-17, 25-19, 15-6.
Gabbie Stick had 15 kills and five digs for Exeter, while Shannon Restrepo had 44 assists and 10 digs. Sara Wesley chipped in with 12 kills, 11 digs, four blocks and four aces and Danielle Faust added nine kills and 14 digs.
The Lady Eagles began their trek through the District 3-AAA playoffs with a victory over Penn Manor in the first round, 3-1 (28-26, 25-15, 20-25, 25-21).
Sara Wesley led the way for Exeter with 13 kills and 12 digs. Gabbie Stick had 12 kills and five digs while Shannon Restrepo added seven kills, 12 digs and 44 assists. Daniel Faust chipped in with 10 kills and 13 digs.
The victory sent the Eagles to the quarterfinals where they took on Warwick on October 31 at Hempfield High School. Exeter had very little trouble dispatching Warwick as they won the match, 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-19).
Lizzy Schultz led the way for Exeter with 14 kills. Sara Wesley had 10 kills and two blocks while Faust contributed eight kills and five digs.
