Daniel Boone
Boys’ Basketball
The Daniel Boone High School boys’ basketball team dropped a pair of games last week and fell to 2-4 in the league and 6-10.
On Jan. 17, the Blazers played host to Wyomissing. Thanks to good second and third quarters, Wyomissing came out with a 59-55 victory.
The Blazers took the early lead, 15-14 after one quarter. But the Spartans took control of the game when they outscored Boone in the second quarter, 20-14, and the third, 15-8. Boone turned that 12-point deficit into a two point deficit in the fourth quarter but the Spartans were able to hold their hosts off.
Pop Lacey led the Daniel Boone offense with 16 points in the game. Steve Sievers and Kenny Worthington each netted 12 points while Stephon Williams scored six and Xavier Smith scored five.
On Jan. 18, the Blazers remained at home to take on Muhlenberg. It was another close game, but a solid second half helped the Muhls to a 48-45 win.
Daniel Boone led at halftime, 23-19, but the Muhls came back to outscore Boone, 15-11 in the third, and 14-11 in the fourth.
Daniel Downs paced the Blazer offense with 14 points in the game. Lacey contributed with 10 points while Sievers scored eight and Worthington added six.
Girls’ Basketball
The Daniel Boone High School girls’ basketball team won two of three games last week and are 2-4 in the Berks League and 5-13 overall.
On Jan. 17, the Lady Blazers hit the road to take on Muhlenberg. The game was close from beginning to end, but the Lady Blazers came out on top, 51-49.
Shelby Vanderslice led the Daniel Boone offense with 18 points in the contest. Dahlia Wilson chipped in with 13 points and Kelly Howiszak scored 12.
On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Lady Blazers traveled to Lansdale for a non-league game against North Penn. A fourth quarter comeback led North Penn to a 51-48 victory.
North Penn came into the game with a 14-1 record, but was staring at a 25-20 halftime deficit. Boone still led by five after three quarters, but North Penn outscored the Lady Blazers in the fourth quarter, 26-18.
Stephanie Sievers led the Daniel Boone offense with 13 points. Vanderslice scored 12 and Howiszak netted 10.
On Jan. 22, the Blazers came back home to take on Antietam in another non-league contest. The Mounts were no match for the Blazers as Boone cruised to a 59-16 victory.
Boone took control of the game early, taking a 25-0 lead after one quarter. But halftime, the Lady Blazers held a 45-4 lead.
Vanderslice led the Blazers in scoring with 12 points. Alyssa Garner contributed to the cause with 11 points and Alayna Roesner scored nine. Wilson scored eight points while Kelly McGreal and Rebecca Mickletz each scored six.
Wrestling
The Daniel Boone High School wrestling team fell to 2-4 in the Berks League and 7-18 overall after losing to Governor Mifflin on Jan. 16, 50-28.
Winning by pins for Daniel Boone were: Owen Powell (106), 4:29; Christian Fernandez (138), 1:04; and Jeff Yohn (170), 1:53.
Nick Limon (160) won by a forfeit while Jordan Lahaise (145) won by a 9-0 decision.
Boys’ Bowling
The Daniel Boone High School boys’ bowling team split a pair of matches last week and are 7-20 in the league and 8-22 overall.
On Jan. 17, the Blazers defeated Muhlenberg, 2-1. Alex Blood led the way for Daniel Boone with a three-game series of 702. Austin Kerper bowled a 625 and Ethan Resh bowled a 615.
On Jan. 22, the Blazers were defeated by Exeter, 2-1. Kerper was the high roller for Boone this time as he bowled a 741 series. Blood bowled a 624 series.
Girls’ Bowling
The Daniel Boone High School girls’ bowling team improved to 6-18 in the league and 9-18 overall after defeating Exeter, 2-1.
The Lady Eagles were led by Morgan Raneiri who bowled a three-game series of 553. Sam Rumler bowled a 491.
Exeter
Boys’ Basketball
The Exeter High School boys’ basketball team remained in a tie for first place with Reading in Division 1 of the Berks League with records of 5-1. The Eagles won a pair of games last week, including one league contest.
On Jan. 18, Exeter played host to Governor Mifflin. A big fourth quarter comeback helped the Eagles defeat a surprisingly tough Governor Mifflin team, 52-39.
The Mustangs came into the game without a league win, but jumped out to a 12-4 lead after one quarter. Exeter cut the lead to two at halftime, 22-20, but Mifflin upped the lead back to six after three quarters. But Exeter finally got it all together in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mustangs, 23-4.
Bryan Stinson and Kris Vaden each had 12 points to lead the winners, while Justin Trojanowski scored 11 and Joe Beddall added eight.
On Jan. 22, the Eagles had another tough battle when they traveled to Robesonia to take on Conrad Weiser in non-league game. Once again the Eagles found themselves behind after three quarters, but once again they got some clutch baskets in the fourth quarter to pull out the 53-50 win.
Trojanowski paced the Exeter offense with 16 points in the game. Vaden netted 10 points while Derek Stump scored all nine of his points on three three-pointers. Brett Gilbert scored seven and Beddall scored six.
Girls’ Basketball
The Exeter High School girls’ basketball team dropped a pair of games last week and are now 0-6 in the Berks League and 5-12 overall.
On Jan. 17, Exeter traveled to Shillington to take on Governor Mifflin. The Lady Eagles stayed right with the Mustangs all the way but it was Mifflin that came out on top, 50-40.
Exeter jumped out to a 13-7 lead at the end of one quarter. By the end three quarters, the game was tied, but the Lady Mustangs outscored Exeter in the final period, 11-1.
Jennifer Eck paced the Exeter offense with 15 points in the game. Sara Wesley netted nine points and Katye Johnson added eight.
On Jan. 22, the Lady Eagles played host to Conrad Weiser in a non-league battle. The Scouts got off to a good start and went on to defeat the Eagles, 45-34.
Weiser jumped out to a 10-7 lead after one quarter, then increased the advantage to 10 by halftime, 23-13. The Lady Eagles were unable to mount a second half comeback.
Johnson and Wesley led the Exeter offense with eight points apiece. Eck scored seven and Aly Snyder added five. Abby Mengel scored four.
Wrestling
The Exeter High School wrestling team improved to 4-2 in the Berkis League and 8-7 overall after defeating Muhlenberg on Jan. 16, 66-9.
Earning pins for the Eagles were: James Moran (195), 2:34; Brett Kulp (106), 1:00; Trey Harkness (113), 0:26; Tristan Watts (120), 1:54; Corey Rowley (126), 1:58; Justice Caban (138), 4:50; John Carrasquillo (145), 0:46; Alex Kramer (152), 0:42; Alex Keim (170), 1:31; and Scott Schaeffer (182), 2:30.
Winning by decisions for Exeter were: Curtis Prince (220), 10-8 in overtime; and Scott Baker (132), 4-1.
Boys’ Swimming
The Exeter High School boys’ swimming team lost a pair of meets last week and the Eagles are 2-5 in the league and 2-7 overall.
On Jan. 18, the Eagles lost to Boyertown, 110-60.
Winning individual events for the Eagles were: Trent Groff, 100 fly (57.38 seconds); Danny Leskowicz, 500 free (5:14.48); and Oliver Knabb, 100 breast (1:04.43).
Also winning was Exeter’s 400 free relay team of Groff, Logan Winchester, Leskowicz and Max Hissick (3:38.32).
On Jan. 22, the Eagles were defeated by Reading, 110-72.
The Eagles were led by Groff who won two events. He was first in the 50 free (23.42) and the 100 fly (58.16). Mike Carter won the diving event for Exeter with 216.85 points. Oliver Knabb won the 100 breast in a time of 1:05.12.
Also winning was Exeter’s 400 relay team of Winchester, Leskowicwz, Groff and Knabb (3:29.21); and Exeter’s 200 medley relay team of Leskowicz, Knabb, Winchester and Groff, 1:49.86.
Girls’ Swimming
The Exeter High School girls’ swimming team split a pair of meets last week. The Lady Eagles are 3-4 in the league and 3-6 overall.
On Jan. 18 the Eagles lost to Boyertown, 114-55.
Exeter was led by Elizabeth Chemey who was first in the 100 fly (1:04.40); and the 100 back (1:01.40).
On Jan. 22, the Lady Eagles defeated Reading, 91-85.
Chemey led the way again for Exeter with two individual victories. She was first in the 100 back (1:01.01) and the the 500 free (5:27.23).
Also taking individual firsts for the Lady Eagles were: Sydney Gundersen, 200 individual medley (2:20.27); Lexzi Scheifley, 50 free (27.43 seconds); and Maryn Ahrens, diving (88.30).
Also winning for Exeter were the 200 medley relay team of Chemey, Sydney Gundersen, Jazzmyn Brown and Scheifley (2:01.23); and the 400 free relay team of Scheifley, Alexandra Gundersen, Chemey and Sydney Gundersen (3:53.10).
Boys’ Bowling
The Exeter High School boys’ bowling team improved to 19-8 in the Berks League and 22-8 overall after defeating Daniel Boone on Jan. 22, 2-1. Bobby Wike led the way for Exeter with a three-game series of 651. Scott Schellhammer bowled a 617 series and Evan Johnson a 616.
Girls’ Bowling
The Exeter High School girls’ bowling team fell to 9-18 in the Berks League after losing to Daniel Boone on Jan. 22, 2-1.
Exeter was led by Danielle Chemesky with a three-game series of 512. Gabi Sabo bowled a 461 series.
Daniel Boone won the junior varsity match, 2-1.
Governor Mifflin
Boys’ Basketball
The Governor Mifflin High School boys’ basketball team lost two of three games last weekand are 0-6 in the Berks League and 4-13 overall.
On Jan. 18, the Mustangs traveled to Exeter to take on a division foe. Thanks to a fourth quarter comeback, Exeter won the game, 52-39.
Mifflin jumped out to a 12-4 lead after one quarter. Exeter cut the lead to two at halftime, 22-20, but Mifflin upped the lead back to six after three quarters. But Exeter finally got it all together in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mustangs, 23-4.
Tommy DePaul led the Governor Mifflin offense with 13 points in the contest. Reid Hoff netted 11 points and Trevon Wight had nine.
On Jan. 21, Exeter traveled to Lititz to take on non-league opponent Warwick. The game was close throughout but it was Warwick that came out on top, 62-57.
Mifflin led by one heading into the fourth quarter, but Warwick outscored the Mustangs in the final period, 19-13.
DePaul led the Mifflin offense once again with 17 points in the game. Wight netted 14 points while Hoff and Austin Peters (three three-point buckets) each scored nine points. Jevn Willet scored six.
On Jan. 22 the Mustangs were back home to take on Antietam in another non-league game. A solid second half helped Governor Mifflin to a 52-41 victory.
The Mustangs held a slim two point lead at halftime, then outscored the Mounts in the third quarter, 13-10, and in the fourth quarter, 12-6.
DePaul was the high scorer for Mifflin with 16 points, while Hoff scored 14 and Wight scored nine. Petes netted six points.
Girls’ Basketball
The Governor Mifflin High School girls’ basketball team split a pair of games last week and are 4-2 in the Berks League and 10-7 overall.
On Jan. 17, the Mustangs played host to Exeter. The Lady Eagles stayed right with the Mustangs all the way, but it was Mifflin that came out on top, 50-40.

Madison Koehler was the high scorer for Governor Mifflin with 16 points in the game. Kylie Herman scored 11 and Emily Gingrich netted 10 while Jonica Brown contributed with nine.
On Jan. 19, the Lady Mustangs traveled to Landisville to take on Hempfield in a non-league game. Hempfield pulled off a fourth quarter comeback to defeat the Mustangs, 42-41.
Governor Mifflin held a 22-20 halftime lead, then increased the lead to eight after three quarters. But Hempfield outscored Mifflin in the fourth quarter, 19-10, to pull off the comeback victory.
Gingrich paced the Mifflin offense with 18 points in the contest. Herman scored nine and Koehler added seven.
Wrestling
The Governor Mifflin High School wrestling team won a pair of matches last week and are alone in second placed in Division 1 of the Berks League with a record of 5-1. The Mustangs are 13-3 overall.
On Jan 16, the Mustangs defeated Daniel Boone, 50-28.
Earning pins for the Mustangs were: Dillon James (152), 5:14; Marcus Johnson (182), 2:57; and Jan Johnson (195), 0:46.
onah Fisher (132) won by a decision, 5-0, and Robert Karmonick (126) won by a technical fall, 15-0. Zach Sheetz (113), Colin Johnson (120), Gibriel Toure (220) and Keith Miller (285) all won by forfeits.
On Jan. 19, Governor Mifflin defeated Conrad Weiser, 55-15.
Winning by pins for Mifflin were: Dylan Harr (145), 2:48; Matt Harris (152), 0:37; Marcus Johnson (182), 3:30; Jan Johnson (195), 5:45; and Keith Miller (285), 3:50.
Colin Johnson (120) won by a 6-4 decision while Jonah Fisher (138) and Keith Stednitz (160) both won by forfeits.
Winning by technical fall were: Majid Sillah (132), 5:30; and Allen Arentz (106), 5:30.
Boys’ Swimming
The Governor Mifflin High School boys’ swimming team split a pair of meets last week and are 5-1.
On Jan. 17, the Mustangs lost to Muhlenberg, 99-87. Individual winners for the Mustangs were: Garrett Brown, 50 free (21.71 seconds); Alex Pfisterer, diving (261.30 points); Sterg Dikos, 500 free (5:05.21); and Kyle McElroy, 100 breast, (1:05.43).
On Jan. 22, the Mustangs defeated Schuylkill Valley, 113-72.
Dikos and Brown led the way for Governor Mifflin by winning two individual events each. Dilos was first in the 200 free (1;50.17) and the 500 free (5:02.91); while Brown was first in the 50 free (22.14 seconds) and the 100 free (48.59).
Also winning individual events for the locals were: Alex Pfisterer, diving (204.50 points); and Evan Barbon, 100 fly (57.20 seconds).
Also winning for the Mustangs were the 200 free relay team of Owen Hanna, Dikos, Issaish Coldren and Brown (1:32.79); and the 400 free relay team of Dikos, Hanna, Coldren and Brown (3:25.51).
Girls’ Swimming
The Governor Mifflin High School girls’ swimming team team split a pair of meets last week and are now 5-1 in the Berks League and 7-2 overall).
On Jan. 17, the Mustangs were defeated by Muhlenberg, 105-78. Gabriella Johnson led the way for Mifflin by winning a pair of individual events.
She finished first in the 100 free (55.40 seconds) and the 100 breast (1:09.24).
On Jan. 22, the Mustangs defeated Schuylkill Valley, 100-86.
Winning individual events for Mifflin were: Matylda Zaklicki, 200 free (2:09.34); Rachel Lombardo, diving (163.35); and Johnson, 100 breast (1:11.21).
Also winning for the Lady Mustangs was the 200 medley relay team of Morgan McMahon, Johnson, Julia Adams and Allie Mueller in a time of 1:57.84.
Boys’ Bowling
The Governor Mifflin High School boys’ bowling team improved to 22-2 after defeating Twin Valley on Jan. 22, 3-0. The Mustangs are alone in first place in the division.
In the victory over Twin Valley, Mifflin was led by Scott Dreisbach who bowled a three-game series of 721. Austin Woodworth bowled a 689 series and Nick Diggan bowled a 681.
Girls’ Bowling
The Governor Mifflin High School girls’ bowling team improved to 13-11 in the Berks League and 19-11 overall after defeating Twin Valley on Jan. 22, 3-0.
Brianna Dreisbach led the way for Mifflin with a three-game series of 641. Emily Carlson bowled a 569 and Alyssa Wharton bowled a 538.
Twin Valley won the junior varsity match, 2-1.
